課程概述

This course aims to keep students updated about international and cultural issues being reported on world media, plus intensive training in listening. The reading materials will mainly be selected from The Economist, Time, New York Times, and other reputable publications. The training will enhance students’ reading comprehension and build up their advanced vocabulary. Two hours per week will be devoted to listening practices through which students will be acquainted with spoken English in various accents, at different speeds, for numerous purposes, and on diverse topics. For listening, we will use multi-media sources from the Internet, video clips, interviews, radio programs, lectures, songs, and so on.

課程目標
Those who would like to register for this course should be 1) willing to challenge themselves; 2) highly motivated in learning English; 3) under strong self-discipline; 4) happy to join group discussions and patient enough to listen to others; 5) able to preview reading materials before class and turn in assignments in time. After all, students are expected to be an active learner, in order to become an eloquent speaker and thinker in English. This is a student-centered course open to students at all levels (in English). Those who only want to take notes and do not like to interact with classmates, or do not wish to be engaged directly by the course instructor, should consider other available study options.
